went up to the Nooksack River this morning to shoot some eagles from the Mosquito Lake Road bridge... found the edge of the bridge lined with photogs with big glass, and wormed my way into the line... here are some of the shots i got. most of the images i got are either full-frame or such a slight crop that it doesn't matter to speak of; most will make nice prints up to at least 12x18. all with 7D and 100-400, various focal lengths and settings...

Rocky, these are absolutely stunning!
Looks like I need to take a trip north to find this location.

thanks, Deka! i came away with a pretty good batch of images... still going through them, but will have a pretty good number of "keepers". the bridge over the river gives a great vantage point, with the sun from behind you, and the eagles were quite active this morning. it's not a hard spot to find, though a bit of a drive from Tacoma... head north on I-5 to Bellingham, then take the exit for SR542, the Mt Baker highway. go past Deming a couple of miles... just past the junction with highway 9, look for Mosquito Lake Road. turn right off 542, and follow the road about half a mile to the bridge... when i got there this morning around 10:30, there were cars parked on both shoulders of the road, and there were probably 20 people on the bridge with long lenses and tripods... a few more, like me, with shorter lenses and shooting freehand...
 


Good shots, Rocky. I used to ride my motorcycle on Mosquito Lake Rd. back in the day. It is so nice when the birds come to you and you don't have to cart around a huge, heavy telephoto lens.
 
thanks, Bill... yeah, it's kinda nice to have them so active and so close at the same time... that's a great spot!
