went up to Mt. Rainier last night, got some night shots, sunrise at Tipsoo, some waterfalls, and some more or less "generic" images of Rainier and environs. i'm exhausted - 4 hours sleep last night, tops, and that in the car, so i probably won't be doing much editing tonite!

this is Edith Creek, taken from the bridge just above Myrtle Falls. aside from a bit of cropping to remove vignetting in the sky, and resizing for the web, this image is straight from the camera... 5D, 24-135 @ 24mm, .6 seconds. yes, you read right - 6/10 of a second on a bright, sunny day... stacked a polarizer and an ND filter, and turned the ISO down to 50, so i could get that nice, soft flow of the creek over the rocks...

What is the ISO? I checked mine and only setting available is auto

Snuffy, DSLRs have adjustable ISO settings... actually, so do many point-n-shoots. on the 5D, you can select ISO settings from 50 to 3200; the new 5D MkII goes up to 12,800! ISO is a measure of the sensitivity of the sensor; the higher the number, the more sensitive it is to light, but the noisier the image. ISO 50 requires slow shutter speeds, but produces very low-noise images.

Snuffy, your camera does have manual iso settings.

Look at page 79. It will show you how you can change yours from between AUTO to 64, 100, 200, 400, 800 or 1600.

not sure what time you were there, but i left about noon, maybe a few minutes before... i would have stayed, but i was hot, sticky, and exhausted, and just wanted to head home for a cool shower and some sleep...
