Monday (3/3) My son Daren and I were at the marina. Someone told us a young seal was resting on the salmon cage attached to the fishing pier, so we checked it out.

The salmon were hatched at the nearby Willow Creek fish hatchery and placed in the cage to imprint to the area. They will be released and after three years will return to the marina as adults ready to spawn.

I wonder if the salmon fry jumping in the cage attracted the seal.

After a few minutes the seal dove into the water. I wonder if the shape of this sailboat passing by on the other side of the fishing pier looked too much like an orca and scared the seal.

Recently two seals have been showing up at the salmon cage below the fishing pier. From Monday (3/10).

One has a tag on its rear flippers.

I would not want to get bitten by those teeth, which can chomp through a salmon.
