Part of the simplicity is Rocky's use of shallow depth of field. Notiice how moist of the mossy branch is in sharp focus, but the background is out of focus and thus not distracting. That's often referred to as "nice bokeh". No matter what you call it, the effect is the same, you see the subject and a pleasing background.
This is a basic technique, but doing it well requires skill and practice. Rocky is a master at it.

Rocky, gorgeous as usual. My favorites are usually the water but I keep finding myself going back to the beautiful details of the moss on the branch. The cool colors of the moss and trees with the sharp contrasting colors in the leaf are just stunning!
