Found this great egret in a marsh near Snohomish last night... got these "golden hour" shots. It was about 60 yards away for the flight photos, and easily 100 for the last one, but I love the light, and just getting photos of an egret in this part of the country is always a treat!
Did you underexpose those shots? This evening I was down at the Edmonds marsh during the "golden hour." All the white/light feathers of the various birds were badly over-exposed by the horizontal sunlight when I shot using "straight on" exposure settings in M mode. I ended up switching to Tv mode with negative exposure compensation.
Yeah, these were shot a stop underexposed, and then I did some tweaking in post to further tone down the whites a bit... Even at that, some of the whites are blown.
