not sure what sort of hawk this is, but it looked like it had gotten wet - perhaps didn't pull up fast enough while diving after prey on the water or something - and was attempting to dry itself off... taken at Jaunita Bay Park on the 9th...

thanks, Bill. it was actually quite a ways off... the tree it was on was probably about 40 feet tall, and i was a good 50 yards from the base of the tree, so these a cropped a good bit...
 


Juvi Northern Goshawk?
Not normal for our area but could have been forced down by the extreme weather in the mountains and northern region.
 
I checked two of my bird books my that specialize in hawks and still believe it is a juvie Cooper's hawk as it lacks the light-colored "eyebrow" of a northern goshawk.
