this flower, known as "indian paintbrush" when i was younger (and now just called "paintbrush" by many in deference to political correctness), is common in the higher elevations in Washington. i got this shot at Johnston Ridge Observatory, about 4200 feet up on a ridge across the valley from Mt. St. Helens. 40D, 100-400L @ 300mm, 1/1000 @ f/6.3
