this little lady was sitting on the concrete seawall next to the walkway to the fishing pier on Saturday... i stopped about 60 feet away and got a couple of shots, then moved closer, about 40 feet, and got a couple of nice close shots. so unusual for a kingfisher to allow people that close, but she was intent on watching the water below. i had time for about 4 shots before she flew off toward the ferry dock... 600mm, 1/1000 @ f/11

You can get good takeoff shots if you stand back and start snapping away as a person walking to or from the fishing pier gets too close to her.
Tuesday afternoon (4/7/15) the marina kingfisher was perching on one of the breakwater "salmons" opposite the walkway to the fishing pier. My son Daren took this photo with the 7D + 4.0/70-200L telephoto lens.
