the females are common as dirt around here, but the males, not so much. they seem to be much more reclusive and hard to find. i came across one yesterday, foraging in the shallows near the seawall at the Edmonds marina. light wasn't great, but i managed these shots before the little stinker up and left...

Good shots. I saw him too, but he was too far away for me to get good shots. Females seem to outnumber males about 4:1. Those mergansers have been hanging out by the north seawall for over a month.
