went down to Canyon Park this afternoon to look for green herons, didn't find any, but ran into Tyler there, and he told me there was a pied-billed grebe with a chick in the main pond, so we went over there and got some shots... thanks for showing me where it was, Tyler! only one chick, which leads me to believe the others have fallen victim to predators - the nest is quite out in the open, and easily accessible to hawks, herons, and whatever else eats baby grebes... hope this last one makes it!!
It was great to meet you too, Rocky! You even got the little grebe yawning! Maybe better luck next time with the green herons

Wow, there's the cute factor!!! Very photogenic, I'm going to have to keep my eyes open for the grebes around here.

thanks, guys! i'd been hoping to get shots of baby grebes at Juanita, but it doesn't look like they'll be nesting there this year...
