One of the other things I love taking pictures of is nautical scenes. I like tug boats, ships and the state ferry system. Here are some recent pics.

1) One of my favorite places to go is Mukilteo's Lighthouse Park.Taken about 4:30 pm Monday. Still trying to determine if its not level of if the pole is crooked, or the 3rd option - lens distortion.

2) Tugboat Mike O'Leary.

3) Tall ship w/ Mount Baker

4)The Edmonds to Kingston - a great day for the polarizer

5)Tug Port Gardner

6) I think even on a cloudy day it can be beautiful in the NW. The Other Olympics.

I hope you like.

nice stuff, I wish the marine traffic was closer to me..........most is 6 miles out in the strait

Thanks, but I know the scenery in your area makes up for it a few times over.

You likely already know about this website, but just in case - its one of the tools I use to decide if I should go down to the water for lunch or somewhere else. It can tell you what ships are coming down the straight.

LOL yep I actually posted ;up that link here for everyone. I have taken several pics of ships that did not have posted photos and uploaded them kinda fun

Ross, I always enjoy your nautical shots. And didn't last years nautical shots with the water spray get Best in Show at the fair?

Good stuff there Ross. I live at the base of those Olympic Mountains. Were you on the Coho to get that shot?

Ever since moving to PA I've been working on my "Ferry Project".

Best to ya, Ernst

Ross, those incredible photos of the ferries in stormy seas and big waves were your shots, correct? Those were amazing.

OH yeah you mean my anonymous 15 minutes of fame.... LOL! Sorry for the huge copyright tag, after the original release I had people all over claiming they took these.

We haven't had a good daytime windstorm since the winter of '07/08.

This one is my favorite though - it was from a different windstorm in January of 2008. It's just a lot cleaner IMO and I like that it's head-on.

Yep, those shots. :)

It's a great series, and the third shot is the one that I really like, with the waves crashing and spraying over the ship. What a fantastic photo!

Thanks again I got really lucky that day. One more red light and I would have missed the wave shot. I had enough time to get out of my truck, aim and fire. More than 50 MPH gusts were recorded during that crossing and the salt water and sand were flying. I ran back to my truck praying that I had the camera set correctly as I didn't have time to check on the way there. Don't you guys hate it when you take a few pics and then realize you're still in manual mode with last nights flashless indoor settings? D'OH!

I later got to meet the guy who was the ferry captain for that run it was fun. He said the whole ferry shuttered during that wave and then descreately mentioned to me that they take waves like that all the time on the San Juan runs - LOL!

Great set of captures. Really like shot #2 in this collection.

That's so funny, and true. 15 minutes of anonymous fame.

Hey Ross, glad to see your aboard!

Of course you already know how much I love your ferry/storm shots. My father-in-law has a copy on his wall!

Really like the Edmonds-Kingston shot with Cascades in the background. Where'd you take that from?

Thanks guys!

Steve I took the Edmonds-Kingston while sitting in line on the ferry dock. While we only missed the ferry by a dozen or so cars I was quite happy to be stopped on the dock which had a great view of the Sound and surrounding area.

Ross, those are the ones I was asking about. LOVE them!!!

*thinks Ross's 15 minutes just got extended another 10 at least*

:)
