stopped off at Pine Ridge park yesterday to see if the pileateds were using the holes they'd been working on... no sign of nesting, though i expect the female could've been sitting inside on eggs and i'd never see her... only saw the male, foraging for insects on a tree near the hole. he flew off across the pond, though, which made me wonder if their nest is up on the hillside instead of down along the road... anyway, this is perhaps the nicest image i've gotten of this handsome fellow. 7DII, 428mm, 1/160 @ f/8, ISO 3200 with no NR...
