This otter put in a very brief appearance yesterday in the little bay between the ferry dock and the marina breakwater - only saw it for a minute, then it disappeared. About 45 minutes later, it surfaced just long enough to grab a breath and dove again, right off the front of the pier - wasn't on the surface long enough to even get the camera pointed at it. River otters are often seen in salt water, but I don't think they live on salt water beaches, so I'm not sure where this one came from, perhaps in the marsh, somewhere over near the hatchery?

I have seen river otters along the Edmonds waterfront. Terry photographed one breaking into a boat inside the marina.

During my BC tours, I've seen river otters hanging out in the ocean in some of the islands and inlets of the coast. They almost certainly live and spend most of their time along the saltwater beaches there. Great find, Rocky.
