went down to Edmonds this afternoon to see i could find "Rufus" at the Pt Edwards retention pond. sure enough, there he was, WAAAAY up at the top of a maple tree about 30-35 yards past the end of the path. between the angle and the distance, not the best for shooting hummers... i managed a few shots, but even with a 600mm lens on a crop body, he was TINY in the frame. this is the best of the shots i got... Rufus was so small, the AF had a hard time locking on to him, even using the center point only! but at least the light was good, and it was early enough in the day that i wasn't shooting into the sun.
after that, i went over to the fish hatchery to see if i could find the creeper. i had no trouble finding the proper tree and vantage point, thanks to Bill's directions, but no creeper presented itself. i watched and waited for over an hour, and finally gave up... i'll try again another day. i then went over to Brackett's Landing and lucked into a parking spot. the beach and the jetty were crowded, but i did find some targets for my lens...
got the harlequin pair on their way from the floating log to the ferry area... the closest they got was about 50 yards, but at least now i have photos (albeit not terribly good ones) of a harlequin duck!
there were a number of horned grebes in nearly complete breeding colors...
and the Brant geese were in close, both near the beach and close to the jetty. a train spooked these geese, and i got a GIF shot as they flew toward the dive park...
