I never tire of watching the shorties on patrol. The trick is to snap a photo at that precise moment when they are staring at you as they make a turn. Easier said than done.

I believe they are the only owls that are regular day time hunters. It is really fun when two shoties or a shorty and a harrier are on patrol and their flight paths overlap. There is usually a brief skirmish over airspace before they resume their circling.
