I had a wonderful morning birding on Jetty Island today. I am new to shorebirds, and looking through my bird guide I think this is a semipalmated sandpiper, but would like confirmation. Thanks!

Least sandpiper. The least sandpipers are the smallest of the sandpipers and have yellow legs. Semipalmated sandpipers are slightly larger and have black legs.
Least sandpipers have been showing up at the Edmonds marsh the past two weeks and were featured in the recent Bird Lore column of My Edmonds News.com.

That is a good shot of the sandpiper. The sandpipers at the Edmonds marsh are too far away to get that good of shot. Sandpipers can be hard to identify due to their varying plumages and those yellow legs can turn black once they start wading in mud.
