snipe up close

this snipe tried to hide, it really did... but i found it in spite of its best efforts. it was lurking down in the cattails when i spotted it from about 12 feet away and got this shot. would have preferred it out in the open, but... well, it's a snipe! they don't usually DO "out in the open"... 7D, 150-600 @ 550mm, 1/80 @ f/7.1

The past four days a snipe has been hanging out in the mud next to the Edmonds marsh walkway between the parking lot and the #3 viewing platform. It is the closest to the walkway I have ever seen one. I startled it this morning when it saw me before I saw it.
