went back to see if any osprey were still using a nesting pole i'd found 5 or 6 years ago, and was pleased to find out they were. i parked about 40 yards from the pole, rolled down the window, and waited. one adult - presumably the female - was perched on the nest, squawking up a storm, and i could see juveniles moving around. finally, after about an hour (patience is a prerequisite for wildlife photography!), the other adult arrived, bearing dinner... what appeared to be the back half of a small flounder. i suspect he ate the rest before returning to the nest. he dropped off the fish, hung around for a couple of minutes to catch his breath, then was off again to fetch more munchies... 7D, 100-400 @ 400mm, various settings...
Good shots. I have observed the same thing at the Meadowdale softball complex nest. The male will eat part of the fish before delivering the rest to the nest.
