passed this marsh alongside the highway on my way home last night, and just had to stop and get a couple of shots... 5D2, 24-105 @ 40mm, 1/10 sec @ f/8... not sure which one i like best, though i'm leaning toward the vertical just for the deep blue sky above...

Great shots. I prefer the vertical shot as well for it captures that wispy upper cloud layer.
I'm a sucker for good sunset photos. As you well know, beautiful sunsets are at a premium up here in the Pacific North Wet. For past three years I have made two calendars of my photos to give to relatives as Christmas presents. One calendar is bird photos and the other is sunset shots.

I'm generally partial to vertical shots, and this is no exception. For me, somehow my eye seems to get stuck in the large expanse (wedge) of silhouetted trees on the right side of the landscape version. The portrait version seems more balanced between darkness and light.
Just my $.02 of course,
