went to check on the "cootlet" at Canyon Park; looks like it's doing well. it's lost that "circus clown" look, and is now beginning to look a bit like a real coot. it's about 1/3 the size of the adults, and seems capable of foraging on its own, though occasionally one of the adults will still offer it a morsel. it's also not afraid to separate - it swam off to one end of the largest "pond" in the marsh, while the adults were at the other, probably 50-60 yards away.
