My son and I drove down to Vancouver to spend Memorial Day with family. I squeezed in two side trips to take bird photos.
On the way down Saturday (5/27/17) we stopped at the Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge. The winter migrants have all left and there was not much to observe without leaving the car. We stopped at the blind, which is about halfway around the loop.
A swallow was perched in a nearby tree.
A couple told us they had seen a snipe in a tree. That surprised me, as I have never seen one in a tree. I kept hearing a rather loud cry, which I finally tracked down to the snipe.
Only my second cedar waxwing this year.
