One of the most secretive birds on the block and very challenging to photograph. All of these shots were taken at Scudder Pond, an urban preserve in Bellingham that is owned by North Cascades Audubon.

Good shots. You are correct about them being the most secretive bird on the block, or in my case, the marsh. I haven't seen a rail at the Edmonds marsh in two years. I call them the Phantoms of the Marsh.
 
Great to see they actually exist, Joe!! I have only had the briefest glimpses - I was beginning to think they were a figment of my imagination :)
