there was a gal who used to keep a blog about this place, she'd document the erosion and show photos of how the sea was reclaiming the shore here. the shoreline is apparently in a pretty constant state of change, eroding and then being rebuilt... i've seen maps projecting what it'll look like in 50 years, and the entire area is gone...
