Found this little female kestrel sitting on a branch beside the road this afternoon... I like the natural perches much better than the power lines. I seem to have an embarrassment of riches when it comes to kestrels to photograph here. When I lived in Everett, it was all I could do to even SEE one, much less get a decent photo, but here in Chehalis, it seems every time I go out with my camera, I see several, and manage at least one worthwhile photo... but I ain't gonna complain!

Good shot. About once a year I see one at the marsh that is passing through town. Now I know where they are going.

Thanks, Bill! I'm still amazed at how common they are here... every time I go out, I see at least 3 or 4 of 'em, usually perched on power lines or occasionally on fence posts, watching for prey in the grass. When I lived up there, it was a struggle just to find one, much less get a decent photo of it... here, it's almost too easy!
