the undeveloped park near Snohomish on the Lowell-Snohomish road is crawling with yellowthroats, though most of the time, you only catch glimpses of them in flight across the tops of the grasses. but apparently there's a nest not far from the gravel path, and i spotted several young ones playing tag among the brambles and branches. because they're immature, they apparently have not yet read the chapter in the Common Yellowthroat's Guide to Proper Behavior, because they were popping out in the open in various places all along the hedgerow. i expect their parents will give them a stern talking to about their reckless attitude, and soon they'll be just as shy and elusive as the adults... but for now, i enjoyed watching their antics!
