    OK - since I did not see the front/face of the rodent, I'll be changing the original post to state muskrat or nutria. If Ridgefield NWR has more nutria than muskrats, those in the know should be able to make their own decision. Thank you for the images of nutria! Deka

    Bill, you ask a really good question! Not sure if I have ever seen a nutria so I'm not sure. I did see the rodent out of the water (no picture though) and it had a low profile. My research tells me that the muskrat and nutria are about the same size? It could be a nutria. Deka

    Now I know what to look for the next time I see coots nesting. Their kind of like baby moose. Only a mother could love them. LOL With that bright red head color, it would be hard for a predator to miss them. Love the images. Deka
