    San Juan Island stars

I was not expecting to see this many stars from San Juan Island, but once I went outside and saw how many stars there were I ran back inside to get my camera and tripod! This is a composite of 174 pictures to get the star trails (equivalent to leaving the shutter open for about an hour and a...

    Northern Bird Trip 10-4-15

Nice find on the egret and great photos, Bill! Do the geese leave during hunting season? I remember them sticking around through tulip season last year, if I remember correctly.

    Whalecome to the pod, L-122

Whalecome to the pod, L122! On Monday I went whale watching out of San Juan Island, and had no idea just how special this day would be. We saw L122, a new calf belonging to the L-pod of our endangered Southern Resident orcas that was seen for the very first time today. According to the Center...

    a juvenile pied-billed grebe

Nice photos Rocky. There is currently a pied-billed grebe sitting on a nest with at least one small chick at Juanita Bay Park, off the main boardwalk looking towards the old road. It seems too far away for decent photos though.

    Osprey 2015

Good series, Bill. Just now catching up on this thread, lots of great osprey photos! Here's one from Lincoln City on the Oregon coast taken last week. Osprey: 1, ocean: 0. Looks like the osprey won this time, catching a fish from the harsh waters of the Pacific Ocean!
