    Owl Season 2015

Nice shots, Rocky. Could you tell me again where this LEOW is, please? Thanks.

    Seahawks Serendipity

Rather have been routed than to have that ending. Boneheaded play, no doubt! On the other hand, the defense let Brady come back from 10 points down so.... And if it had been a touchdown..... See you in September!

    Strange Trumpeter Swan

I found this strange swan mixed in with a large group of trumpeters yesterday. Any clues?

    Owl Season 2015

Good one, Rocky! 600 hand-held speaks well for the lens AND the lens holder.

    Hutton's Vireo

Rule of thumb: always check the bill if the socks aren't yellow. ;)

    Bald Eagles rule!

Thanks, Chad. I was busy at the time watching/photographing a Great Blue Heron fishing in a tidal pool. He was very accommodating and successful. Joe

    Hutton's Vireo

Mixed in with foraging flocks of kinglets, chickadees, and siskins was this HUVI, every bit as challenging as the kinglets.

    Bald Eagles rule!

I was on the beach at Birch Bay SP yesterday afternoon when I heard/saw gulls and crows arguing over ownership of a fish that had washed up on the beach. Out of nowhere came this Bald Eagle that swooped in and settled the argument, without missing a wing beat. *Its talons are wrapped around...

a cormorant with supper, Juanita Bay Park

Nice catch....for you and the cormorant! :D

    Long-tailed Ducks

Thanks, Rocky. They're Arctic ducks and are often the most numerous Arctic species. We usually have a good contingent at Blaine/Semiahmoo during the winter months.

    Long-tailed Ducks

Yes they were, Bill, and shooting from a kayak has its own unique challenges. On the other hand, it's quite enjoyable.

    Long-tailed Ducks

Flat calm for a full day of kayaking on Drayton Harbor this past Wednesday. The big numbers are yet to come, but the long-tails are entertaining enough. Female LTDU Three amigos

    Owl Season 2015

Ho-hum, another Short-ear. :D Found this one on the Lummi Flats on the way home from a full day of kayaking on Drayton Harbor.

    Owl Season 2015

I've named my Barred Owl buddy Waldo because he always challenges me to find him. I suspected he was up high in a certain group of trees this afternoon, but I couldn't see him. So I called him and he flew right down to me....and perched ten feet away.

    Owl Season 2015

Hardly any competition for the fantastic long-eared/short-eared shots but this Barred Owl and I have developed a pretty close relationship for the past several weeks. He seems to be playing a "where's Waldo" game with me to see if I can find him....and I often do.

    Golden-crowned Kinglets

While I was photographing a reliable Barred Owl in the rain this morning, a mob of kinglets surrounded me. What was I to do? Despite the bad light, I shot 'em anyway. They're challenging but fun!

    Bank right!

    Exceptional shot, Rocky!

    First moonrise of 2015

Cindy and I were out on the Samish Flats yesterday as the sun set and the moon rose. I saw potential for a fun shot when we came upon this most accommodating Red-tailed Hawk. After a series of maneuvers, I settled for this one. Happy New Year!

    Holiday greetings to all

Wishing each and every one of you the very best at this special time of year. :D

    another woodie

Rocky, you're probably preaching to the choir....I never met a Wood Duck I didn't like.
