Mount Saint Helens from fog to stars

I met up with friends and headed up to Mount Saint Helens for a day of flowers and and evening stars. We took the road to the Johnston Ridge Observatory and took a few stops along the way. Primarily we hung out for Milky Way. We were a little concerned because the clouds hung around the mountain until the late afternoon and finally dissipated with the cool of the evening.

thanks, Janice! wow... ISO 4000? did you have any difficulty cleaning up noise? i know the 7D is pretty clean up to 1600 or so, but i've never tried shooting at anything like 4000....

Surprisingly I had very little problem cleaning it up. I am getting pretty adept and doing that in camera raw. The noise is of course much more noticeable when viewed a full size. But I'm pretty happy with the result. I'm a little disappointed in my composition but there will always be another time.
