Over at the Tualatin River refuge, both parents are spending a great deal of time perching in the firs next to the visitors center, several hundred yards away from the nest, making their calls; seeming to try and coax the kid out.
He'll be out in no time, if not already.

So call me a liar. Here are a few from Saturday 9/15). 5D Mk III/100-400L zoom + 1.4 teleconverter
One of the parents flew in through the back door of the nest with some food for the nestlings.
Feeding a nestling.
One baby is stretching its wings behind the parent.
The other is peeking over the edge of the nest.
I think today will be the day, I thought it would happen last night, there was just enough wind that I thought he'd get some lift. I don't think I'll make it out today.

The eaglets were doing fine Monday (6/3) afternoon....
although one of their parents guarding the nest from the top of a nearby Doug fir was getting strafed and scolded by a bold Steller's jay.

BTW, looking closely at my shots, there was an adult in the nest that we couldn't see. That explains why the other nestling was so high up, I think.

We have a pair of Eaglets!
We definitely have two eaglets! I caught them with the Mother at dinner time.
I only managed one shot with both the nestlings at one time.
Looks like they might be having Seagull for dinner - I definitely saw some white feathers.
Mom is having a wing bone herself.
She seemed careful to get morsels to each nestling but took a few bits herself.
She had just finished swallowing a long bone whole!

Thursday afternoon (6/6) I caught the two eaglets engaged in some sort of sibling dispute or play.
Mom was hidden in a nearby tree and flew in to settle things down.
The nest is larger than it appears from our vantage point as it can hold both eaglets and their mother.

Sometimes it looked as though one was going to jump out of the nest.

Good shot. The few I got Saturday afternoon are not worth posting up. I look forward to their branch hopping and first flight.

It rained all day Thursday (6/20), the last day of spring. The eaglets stood upright with their wings wrapped around themselves like blankets to stay warm and dry.
