Since we live on a couple of acres, every now and then we get some interesting birds and animals.
We were delighted that recently, within the last couple of months, the California Quail have re-appeared. Now if they can stay out of sight of the Cooper's Hawks, we
might see more this spring.

The first two shots are of the male - all were taken with a Canon 40D and 400mm f4L hand held, on Monday, October 7, 2013

And the female - actually there were two of them.

Nothing too exciting, but the fall spiders are starting to show up here in Woodway as well as lots of Golden-crowned Sparrows.

We'll see what tomorrow brings :)

The Lookout

Its exciting to see the California Quails visiting our yard - its been years. Taken today with a bit of sunlight after what feels like weeks of fog.

Very nice of the Quail... do they migrate up here or is that just their name? ( getting fly swatter.. whapppp goes the spider)

Hi Christine, Thanks. I believe they are year-round here, having migrated north from California. They were introduced to Utah and Arizona.
Their populations vary - apparently they don't do well in wet weather.....go figure

Bill, I agree - but I think the wet springs take more of a toll on the chicks and overall population than do the coyotes and hawks.
