A portrait of a Baird's tapir, photographed in Corcovado National Park in Costa Rica. I spent a month in Costa Rica leading a couple of photo tours, and both tours culminated in a stay inside Corcovado, probably the best place for general wildlife in the entire country. It's also the best place to see this species--Central America's largest native land animal--in the wild. We had very good luck, seeing multiple tapirs per day, including a few rare open glimpses like this one.
