Delicate & Coarse

This Silene uniflora Swan Lake is growing in a four foot section of storm sewer pipe that was evidently washed out to sea and tumbled in the surf for many years and has finally wedged between some large boulders. The barnacle growth, although not shown, is extraordinary. The Swan Lake appears to be growing "under pressure." Silene is a shirt-tail cousin of the carnation.
