Essential Equipment for Sports Photography

Here are some key items I’ve found to be absolute game-changers:

  1. DSLR or Mirrorless Cameras: Fast autofocus and high frame rates are essential. Models like the Canon R6 Mark II or Sony A1 are popular among pros.
  2. Telephoto Lenses: 70-200mm f/2.8 or 400mm f/2.8 are industry standards for sports. They’re pricey but worth it for the reach and aperture.
  3. Monopod: A lightweight alternative to tripods for stability during long shoots.
  4. Memory Cards: High-speed cards like the SanDisk Extreme Pro series ensure you don't miss a moment due to slow write speeds.
  5. Weather Protection: Rain covers for your gear are a lifesaver, especially if you’re shooting outdoor events.
If you want a detailed breakdown of sports photography equipment, check out this article here. It covers everything from cameras and lenses to accessories you might not think about but really need (like gimbal stabilisers and portable storage).
