On our most recent trip to Yellowstone, there was a full moon during our visit. I decided to go out and do some night photography. While on the way to my primary shot, I had an idea. I told my wife "Wonder if I can do Old Faithful and the moon?" With no internet to check the eruption time, I decided to just go for it and take my chances. The goal was to have the moon and the geyser in one shot. The moon had to be fairly low in the sky to have it work.

We drove to the park, and being mid September and after dark, finding a parking spot was quick. I grabbed my gear and set up, while Deb checked the eruption times. It was good, enough time to do some quick test shots, but not so long that the moon would be too high.

This is the result, I think it came out pretty cool.

What a shot! Having taken more than my fair share of sunset shots, I can appreciate how difficult it must have been to stop down to get the "rayed" effect of the moon and still have enough light to photograph the surroundings. Plus you had to deal with the timing of the eruption of the geyser. 🤙
Can you elaborate on your technique, camera settings, etc?
